"THE BURL"

2007 Finalist

Fire Mountain Gems and Beads National Contest

Inspired by a beautiful lampwork fish a dear friend gave me, "The Burl" came to life after I found the perfect Oregon redwood burl, handpicked some seashells from my own worldwide collection and combined every bead, pearl and piece of coral that spoke to me about "the seashore" from my bins of supplies. I worked on sculpturing the beading of the waves to create a translucent texture ~ and they do indeed show the light from behind the crest. Carefully structured sea anenomes from the smallest of beads trickle down the sides of the burl ~ "Ophelia" the glass fish is caught in a hand-crafted/beaded net.

My Beadazzled necklace is one of my prize possessions. People always admire it because it is an artisan-crafted one-of-a-kind piece that will always be in style.
The burl and bead "sculpture" is breath-taking.
